Casillas is seeking 3.7 million euros from insurer Fidelidade and FC Porto over the 2019 heart attack suffered in training that ended his goalkeeping career.
According to Público, he told a judge in a case for incapacity payments that, at 45, he still lives with significant limitations.
He said he cannot run beyond roughly 20 or 50 metres. In the first week after the incident he did nothing, after 10 days he began walking slowly with minimal effort, and he estimated it took about seven months even to feel what that was like again.
Recalling the episode at Porto’s training ground, he described breathing difficulties and chest pain, alerting the goalkeeping coach and the club physio Roberto. Staff advised him to stay calm, fetched Dr Nelson Puga, moved him by golf cart to the dressing room, then he was taken to CUF.
The case has been running since October 2021, with Fidelidade and the club arguing it cannot be proven that exertion in that session caused the cardiac event.
Fidelidade paid him 1.5 million euros at the time, the maximum annual amount for workplace accidents, while FC Porto covered more than one million euros in wages during the year he was inactive before retiring in 2020.
