According to Coluna Do Fla, the CBF has appointed Fernando Antonio Mendes (PA) to referee Flamengo v Red Bull Bragantino on Thursday at 21:30 Brasília time in the ninth round of the Brasileirão.

He will be assisted by Guilherme Dias Camilo (MG) and Acacio Menezes Leao (PA), with Diego Pombo Lopez (BA) on VAR.

Mendes has previously taken charge of two Flamengo matches, both late last season. Flamengo won 3-0 on each occasion, first against Sport in round 31, then against Bragantino in round 35, both in Rio de Janeiro.

The Sport game prompted a public complaint from football director José Boto after Mendes, following a VAR recommendation, sent off Evertton Araújo in the closing minutes. Weeks earlier, Palmeiras defender Gustavo Gómez had committed a similar foul without being shown a red card.

Boto struck an ironic tone, thanking a packed Maracanã on a Saturday night, saying the officiating had applied the laws, and adding it was a pity the rules in Rio de Janeiro were different.

Rede Globo will show the match free to air and Premiere will carry it on pay-per-view.
