On the eve of the World Cup, Brazilian football is moving to advance plans for a domestic league. The CBF is taking representatives from Série A and Série B clubs and state federations to the United States to study Major League Soccer and other American leagues.
According to Globo.com, the delegation will arrive on Thursday and stay until Sunday to discuss sports marketing and business models. CBF president Samir Xaud said the aim is to learn how elite leagues structure their businesses, build brands and connect with fans, adding that such exchanges are vital to the game's development in Brazil.
MLS has become a reference point for the sport's growth in the United States, boosted by the arrivals of Messi and Suárez and investors such as Ronaldo and Beckham.
Those travelling include Inter president Alessandro Barcellos, São Paulo's Harris Massis, Santos' Marcelo Teixeira, Vitória's Fábio Mota and Juventude's Fábio Pizzamiglio, plus Grêmio CEO Alex Leitão and Bahia CEO Raul Aguirre.
The initiative is not new. In January, club executives visited Spain, England and Germany to study La Liga, the Premier League and the Bundesliga.
The trip's final engagement is scheduled for Saturday, when the group will attend Brazil's World Cup opener against Morocco in New Jersey.
