Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has confirmed goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has been appointed as the club's new captain.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper wore the captain's armband in the Soweto giants' goalless draw with Siwelele FC in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday.

Interestingly, prior to leaving the club, Nasreddine Nabi had named Miguel Inacio as the club's skipper and Zitha Kwinika would occasionally assume responsibility when called upon on the field.

When quizzed on why Petersen captained the team against Siwelele despite the two defenders being on the starting XI, Kaze swiftly confirmed the technical team's decision to change captaincy.

“We decided as the technical staff to give Petersen as the captain going forward,” the Burundian tactician asserted.

The CAF A License holder went on to clarify the reason behind the absence of co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef in the dugout against the Bloemfontein-based outfit.

“Khalil attended a personal matter in Morocco and he is coming back tomorrow [Thursday],” Kaze added.

Chiefs will now turn their attention to the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round tie against AS Simba at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.
