At a time when Stephan El Shaarawy’s future appears doomed, Roma has turned the spotlight on another player whose contract expires: Zeki Celik.
The Turkish full-back’s contract expires in June, but the Giallorossi are already working to find a way to extend his contract, with a view to securing the squad’s key players.
Celik, who arrived in 2022, has endured a mixed bag of years: under the management of Mourinho, De Rossi, and Juric, he never managed to shine, often remaining in the shadows.
His breakthrough came with the arrival of Claudio Ranieri and his definitive confirmation under Gian Piero Gasperini.
The Piedmontese coach has been able to make the most of his tactical versatility, deploying him both as a third central defender in the defensive line and as a right winger. This versatility has proven to be a valuable asset, even at the European level.
Despite his recent performance against Cagliari, marred by a red card for a last-man tackle, Celik continues to attract interest from several clubs, both Italian and international.
Sporting director Frederic Massara has already initiated contact with his agents to finalize a contract renewal, according to Il Corriere dello Sport, demonstrating the confidence in his abilities.
At the same time, Roma will shift their attention to other key players.
The next names on the list for protection are Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante, whose contracts expire in 2027, respectively. The management’s goal is clear: to ensure stability and continuity for the team, securing the long-term retention of key players.
