The Japanese star has been somewhat of a bolt out of the blue for the support, with his name appearing without warning and seeming somewhat odd, considering the position in which he plays and the apparent lack of experience under his belt so far in the professional game.

Nonetheless, the club look to be finalising a deal for the defender and if reports are to be believed, he should become a Hoops player sooner, rather than later.

Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph has given an update on the situation tonight and confirmed that the left-footed centre-back is in London at this moment in time for a Celtic medical and that barring any last minute hitches, the club will look to conclude a deal for the J-League man.

Interestingly, Joseph also revealed the transfer fee which Celtic will shell out for the Albirex Niigata star, which suggests he will be another project with an eye to the future. Of course, the club have previously recruited from Japan with defenders before and it hasn’t gone according to plan. So many will he hoping Inamura can adapt better to Scottish football than those before him at central defence.

Taking to social media site X tonight, the Scottish journalist revealed:

“UPDATE: Albirex Niigata centre-back Hayato Inamura is on his way to London to complete a medical with Celtic. His club announced he had left the squad to pursue a transfer to “an overseas club”. Sky Sports News understands the clubs have agreed a deal in the region of £250,000.”

If he does indeed sign on the dotted line in the coming days, Inamura will be Brendan Rodgers’ fifth summer signing, following Kieran Tierney, Ross Doohan, Benjamin Nygren and most recently Callum Osmond from Fulham.

Celtic have been tentatively getting deals done, however, with Champions League qualification on the line and qualifiers looming large, more needs to be done to secure the first team starters which will boost our assault on all four fronts next season, both at home and abroad.
