RANGERS…0

Celtic lifted the Scottish Cup for the first time in three years with a brave and battling 1-0 victory over Rangers at Hampden.

The only goal of the game came in the 26 minute from Morgan Cross, and the Hoops had to play most of the second half with 10 players following Emma Lawton’s dismissal after picking up two yellow cards.

The game started with both sides trying to feel their way into the contest, and it was Rangers who had the first clearcut chance of the game on 11 minutes when Mia McMcAulay hit the post with a shot from just inside the area.

Celtic’s first effort to test the Rangers keeper came on 23 minutes though a Chloe Craig shot from 25 yards out, but though it was on target, it was comfortably dealt with.

However, just three minutes later, the Hoops took the lead following good hold-up play from Evie Rabjohn.

The ball eventually found its way to Saoirse Noonan on the left flank and her cross to the far post was guided into the next by Morgan Cross from the edge of the six-yard box to make it 1-0.

However, as the half wore on, it was Rangers who looked more dangerous as they looked for an equaliser, but Celtic keeper Adelaide Gay produced good saves to deny McAulay and then Katie Wilkinson in quick succession.

And the Hoops defence were pleased to see out the opening 45 minutes with the 1-0 lead still intact.

The early stages of the second-half followed a similar pattern, and Adelaide Gay did well to deal with a Mia McAulay shot from 25 yards out within 60 seconds of the re-start.

And the Celtic keeper was on hand again to save a powerful shot from Laura Berry before gathering the ball on the goal-line from a McAulay header.

On 56 minutes, Celtic’s goalscorer, Morgan Cross was replaced by Jenny Smith, and the Celtic substitute almost made an immediate impact, latching on to a long ball and then firing in a shot from 20 yards out that Jenna Fife did well to save.

However, just a minute late, the Hoops suffered a blow when Emma Lawton picked up a second yellow card and Grant Scott’s side were reduced to 10 players.

Not surprisingly, Celtic found themselves under ever more pressure, and in the 63rd minute Chloe Craig did well to head the ball to safety from inside the six-yard box as Wilkinson waited to pounce.

On 71 minutes, Shin Ji Kim spurned a great chance when she headed over from a few yards out, and Celtic’s goal continued to lead a charmed life, with the bar coming to the Hoops’ rescue with six minutes remaining following a dangerous corner.

In the 90 minute, Calliste Brookshire blazed over from inside the area, and the Hoops remained resolute in defence with six added minutes allocated.

However, Grant Scott’s side showed tremendous character and resilience to see out the game and sign off the season as Scottish Cup winners.
