As we get closer to the summer transfer window, Celtic are being, and will continue to be, linked with a number of players. Of course, fans always love to see the club show some ambition and make some big-money moves. But at the same time, it is important to be smart as well and keep an eye out on bargain signings or free agents.

One player, who the club have been linked with in the past, might be available as a free agent this summer. That is none other than Martin Boyle.

Boyle is a veteran in Scottish football, having made 355 appearances for Hibernian and also represented Montrose and Dundee FC over the course of his career. His current deal with Hibs is set to run out in the summer though and there has been no resolution on his future so far.

It was a few years back that Celtic were heavily linked with Boyle, but a move did not materialise back then. Now at 31 years of age, the Australian international remains a consistent performer for Hibernian and has scored 15 goals and provided 9 assists so far this season. Signing someone of that calibre as a free agent is definitely worth considering.

Boyle has made 39 appearances for the Australian national team as well and he can play as a striker and on the wing. Of course, those are both areas where Celtic could do with more options in.

All this being said, it is very possible that Hibernian might try to keep Boyle beyond this season. And in the past, he has admitted that he is open to staying with the Hibs.

Someone like Boyle would be a decent signing for Celtic, as a cover option both up front and on the wing. It remains to be seen if he becomes available as a free agent.
