Chris Wilder has admitted Sheffield United will consider offers for Celtic and Rangers target Tyrese Campbell if doesn't sign a new contract.

Sheffield United are set for a huge summer after their disappointing campaign, with boss Chris Wilder preparing to oversee a major overhaul of the squad.

The boyhood fan returned to the Blades for a third time back in September, inheriting a group that were in the relegation zone.

Whilst things have improved under his guidance, with Sheffield United never really involved in the relegation battle, they haven’t shown the consistency that the boss would’ve wanted.

With a host of players on loan, and several out of contract, Wilder has already confirmed that the squad will look very different when the 2026/27 season starts.

Sheffield United are also in a difficult position with two senior players in Gustavo Hamer and Tyrese Campbell, as the duo are only under contract at Bramall Lane until 2027.

Therefore, the Yorkshire outfit know this summer could be the last chance to get decent fees for the pair unless new contracts are agreed.

Naturally, there has been speculation involving the duo, with reports claiming Trabzonspor are tracking Hamer. Meanwhile, it’s thought that Celtic and Rangers have been scouting Campbell ahead of the summer window.

The chance to move to either of the Glasgow giants may appeal to Campbell, and they may see the summer window as a chance to land the forward for a bargain fee.

Yet, speaking to BBC Sheffield, Wilder insisted the club will stand firm on their valuation of players, but he admitted letting anyone enter the final year of their contract is far from ideal, with talks ongoing between Sheffield United and the representatives of Hamer and Campbell.

There will be the financial aspect when looking at players," Wilder said.

"We’ll treat everyone on its own merits, but the two big ones are Tyrese and Gus. So, we’ll have talks with their agents, and talks with the players as well. Do they want to be part of things going forward?

So, there’s a lot of discussions between all of the parties between now and the end of the season. Do the players want to stay? Do they want to go? But they’re still under contract.

If the player wants to go, but there’s no interest in them, then he’s here for next season. It’s an obvious one that we don’t like players running down their contracts, especially when the club paid quite a bit of money for Gus as well.

We’re talking to them (Hamer and Campbell). Tyrese was outstanding last year, he has not hit the heights at all this year. If he signs a new deal then great, and it’s up to us and him to get him back to the standards he set. I still think there’s a player there.

But, as always, the question will be, do you want to be part of our new journey? If you don’t, we’ll do our best to facilitate that and make things happen without getting mugged off by somebody offering anything or lowballing us on a price that we don’t see as reasonable for us.”

Chris Wilder will be prepared to make tough decisions at Sheffield United this summer

As Wilder says, the only important thing this summer is building a squad that completely buys into what he wants and suits his style of play.

This season has been hugely frustrating for the club, and it started with poor recruitment under Ruben Selles, who wasn’t cut out for the job.

Since then, they have improved under Wilder, but, even so, he has understandably faced criticism when you look at some of the performances over the past few months.

Ultimately, Sheffield United are counting down the days until the season ends, and then the hard work will start as they go about reshaping the squad.

The contract situation of Hamer and Campbell means you get the impression they will be sold or moved on, and that makes sense, as letting them run down their deals isn’t what anyone wants, and it’s pivotal Wilder has a group that is fully committed.

So, it will be interesting to see how this plays out, and if Celtic or Rangers do push to sign Campbell, it’s clear a deal is there to be done with the Blades.
