Celtic's recent form might have been shaky, but they are on course to script another memorable season. The league title seems to be just a matter of time. On the other hand, the Hoops are also in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup. So, if things go well, this could turn out to be another domestic treble for Brendan Rodgers in Glasgow.
That being said, Celtic cannot make the mistake of resting on their laurels. They must aim to improve their squad further in the summer transfer window.
We have seen signs of vulnerability in this team, especially against the Rangers. In the past three Glasgow Derbies, they have conceded a total of nine goals. Not nearly good enough by Celtic's standards.
It looks like signing a defensive midfielder is on the club's mind ahead of the summer transfer window. They have already been linked with Kalidou Sidibe and Wataru Endo. Now, another name has been added to that list.
As reported by Fussballtransfers, Elvis Rexhbecaj is considering various options. Several foreign clubs have already inquired about the 27-year-old. Celtic, Besiktas, and Parma are among those knocking on the door.
The Kosovo international is 27 years old. He currently plays for FC Augsburg. Of course, Celtic already have a pre-existing relationship there as they signed Arne Engels from the Bundesliga club next summer. Could they now repeat the trick with one of his former teammates? Time shall tell.
Rexhbecaj is somewhat of a veteran in the Bundesliga, having already made 179 appearances in the top German league. Other than FC Augsburg, he has also played for Wolfsburg, Cologne and Bochum. At the international level, he has made a couple of appearances for Kosovo.
One thing appears to be pretty clear heading into the summer transfer window though. Celtic will look to sign a defensive midfielder. They have signed a few in recent years but nobody has been able to nail down a spot in the team. One can only hope that they get it right this time around. They most definitely need to.
