Celtic will return on action next weekend when they head to Dundee for a Sunday clash at Dens Park.
And the players not away on international duty have returned to Lennoxtown today (Monday) as preparations continue for what will be a crucial Premiership clash.
Martin O’Neill is anticipating another tough game against Steven Pressley’s side as he told Celtic TV in an exclusive interview.
The Hoops’ most recent league game was just a few hundred yards away from Dens Park, with the team suffering a 2-0 loss against Dundee United, and while acknowledging the big disappointment of that defeat, the manager emphasised that the team are far from out of it.
“There’s a massive game on Sunday, a really big game and one that we’ve essentially got to win,” he said.
“That won’t be easy, but if we’re still in contention come the split, then I think we’ve got three home games and two away – all big matches against the big sides, so there’s still all to play for in that sense.
“I thought Dundee played exceptionally well against us in the cup game. We got the late equaliser and then went on to win the game in extra-time.
“So they played very well and in a lot of subsequent games they’ve been well and truly in the picture.
“They fought back against Dundee United in the big derby game. They’re a strong outfit and whatever way they approach the game, it’s about how we approach it as much as anything else, and we just have to be as strong as them.
“I think if you can play early and win your game, you’re in the box seats in that aspect. But, really, it’s a game that you still have to win regardless of what happens the previous day.”
