Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has provided an injury update after it was confirmed that his season was over. The 39-year-old has suffered from a recurrence of a shoulder injury that he suffered for Denmark last March.

Schmeichel has struggled this season, showing signs that he was playing through an injury that led to subpar displays for Celtic. Unfortunately, the UEFA Europa League tie with Stuttgart saw two mistakes from the goalkeeper as it spelled the end of his Celtic career.

Despite the injury, Schmeichel played in the defeat to Hibernian – his last appearance for Celtic. It was then confirmed at Ibrox that he hadn’t made the squad to face Rangers with Vil Sinisalo keeping his place from the win in Germany.

Schmeichel revealed in an appearance on TV with his father, that his season was over with a period on the sidelines expected to keep him out for 6-8 months with two rounds of surgery required.

In an update on Instagram, the Leicester City title winning goalkeeper provided an update on his injury.

While Schmeichel was poor at various times for Celtic this season, he was excellent last season until he suffered an injury. It has been a disappointing end to Schmeichel’s time at Celtic but the player did not pick himself, medical staff and three management teams continued to play the stopper despite it appearing obvious that he was struggling with his shoulder.
