Mexican winger César Huerta has reportedly entered advanced negotiations with Belgian side Anderlecht, according to journalists Matteo Moretto and César Luis Merlo. The 24-year-old has emerged as a star for both his club, Pumas UNAM, and the Mexican national team. Huerta impressed during the 2024 Apertura, contributing nine goal involvements in 17 matches. Additionally, he found stability with El Trí, netting in the matches against the USA and New Zealand, further solidifying his growing reputation.
Huerta was heavily linked with a move abroad during the summer transfer window, with clubs in Spain, Greece, Germany, and England all expressing interest. Among the most prominent suitors were Liverpool and Girona, both of whom reportedly inquired about his availability. Ahead of the winter window, speculation has shifted to new potential destinations, with Aston Villa and Osasuna among the clubs rumored to be monitoring his situation.
As the January transfer window approaches, many expected Huerta to remain in the Mexican capital until the end of the 2025 Clausura. However, news of his discussions with Anderlecht suggests a potential departure sooner than anticipated. With Huerta’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, Pumas may feel compelled to sell the winger this winter to avoid losing him on a free transfer later.
