Serie A’s quartet of Champions League representatives are on course to progress to the knockout stage of the competition this season.
Inter and Atlanta are vying to secure an automatic spot by finishing in the top eight of the standings at the end of the league phase. Napoli and Juventus are both above the cut-off line for one of the play-off places and will fancy their chances of also going through.
With that in mind, read on as we look at the latest betting for the Champions League, before assessing whether the Serie A teams will book a spot in the last-16.
The reputable sportsbooks featured on Goal.com are offering a plethora of markets on the Champions League including outright odds.
Arsenal are the bookmakers’ favourites to lift the prestigious trophy, but several other teams have a genuine chance of emerging victorious. Here is the latest betting:
Inter (4th) – 12 points
Inter’s 2-1 defeat at Atletico Madrid in their most recent outing was their first setback in this year’s competition.
The result left them fourth in the standings ahead of what promises to be a tough run of fixtures over the next couple of months. Home games against Arsenal and Liverpool are both tricky, while the final league phase match at Borussia Dortmund is another potential banana skin.
Sixteen points was enough to secure a top-eight finish last season, so Inter have a reasonable idea of what will be needed to progress to the last-16.
Atalanta (10th) – 10 points
While Atalanta have been struggling to produce their best form in Serie A, they are well placed to secure automatic progression to the last-16 in the Champions League.
Chelsea will be no pushovers in their next fixture, but a point from that game would not be the worst result in the world when considering the bigger picture.
Their remaining fixtures against Athletic Club (H) and Union Saint-Gilloise (A) are both winnable, and a top eight finish is undoubtedly achievable for Atalanta.
If things do not go to plan, Atalanta should still have enough leeway to claim one of the 16 play-off places by finishing above the cut-off zone.
Napoli (20th) – 7 points
While Napoli have been hit and miss in the Champions League this season, they should be capable of at least making it through to the play-offs.
Upcoming visits to Benfica and FC Copenhagen are both tricky, yet Napoli have the ability to secure positive results from both games.
The final match at home to Chelsea could be problematic, particularly if the visitors are still vying to secure an automatic spot in the last-16.
Eleven points should ensure that Napoli finish inside the top 24 and clinch a place in the knockout play-off round.
Juventus (22nd) – 6 points
One win and three draws in five outings have made life tricky for Juventus, but they will still expect to progress to the next stage of the competition.
Home games against Pafos and Benfica should yield six points, which would set Juve up nicely for their final fixture at Monaco.
The Ligue 1 side are also in contention for a play-off place, but could have slipped out of the running by the time they face Juventus.
A seven-point haul should be enough for Juventus to progress to the play-offs, although it would be no surprise if they completed a clean sweep of victories.
