Vasco da Gama 1-1 Chapecoense at São Januário on Thursday, a result that lifts Chape from fifth to third in the Brasileirão.
After the restart, José Luis Rodríguez turned in a cross from Andrés Gómez in the 55th minute to put Vasco ahead.
Brenner struck the woodwork twice around the hour as Vasco pressed for a cushion. Léo Vieira kept Chape alive with 10 saves. Vasco racked up 30 attempts and 14 corners as Philippe Coutinho and Nuno Moreira probed.
Substitutes shifted the momentum, with Marcinho soon firing wide (74.). In the first minute of second half stoppage time, Jean Carlos bent a free-kick into the top left to level.
Six minutes were indicated for added time.
