Manchester United have reportedly missed out on Greek wonderkid Charalampos Kostoulas, who is on the brink of completing a move to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe assumed operational control of United in February last year, there has been a noticeable shift in United’s transfer policy. The club seem to be primarily focused on landing some of the best up-and-coming talents as opposed to only recruiting already established superstars.

The likes of Sekou Kone, Chido Obi, Ayden Heaven, Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro are just some of the youngsters United have landed over the past year.

As part of this approach, United were mentioned as an interested party in Kostoulas.

Regarded as a top prospect during his time in Olympiacos’ youth ranks, Kostoulas became the club’s youngest-ever debutant when he made his professional bow for the B team against Irodotos in the second division at just 15 years old.

He played a pivotal role in helping Olympiacos secure their first-ever UEFA trophy, as the club’s youth side stunned top  European teams to win the UEFA Youth League. Kostoulas contributed significantly, scoring five goals in eight matches en route to the title.

He has since been a regular presence in the Olympiacos senior set-up. The young forward has scored seven goals in 35 games since making his debut.

Arsenal were also said to be keeping tabs on Kostoulas alongside United, but recently it’s Brighton who’ve shown the clearest intent to get the deal done.

Now, it seems Brighton have reached an agreement with Olympiacos for the 18-year-old to seal a switch to the Amex Stadium.

Jacobs wrote on X, “Charalampos Kostoulas is set for a Brighton medical on Wednesday. 18-year-old will join from Olympiacos for around £34m.”

This was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

“After Diego Coppola deal done, Brighton also sign Charalampos Kostoulas – here we go!”

“Deal done with Olympiacos for £34m fee as player will undergo medical this week, as Ben Jacobs reports.”

Unless something drastic happens, Kostoulas will be a Brighton player and United will not be signing him this summer.
