Tyrique George says England U21 and Chelsea team-mate Jamie Gittens will be a top player for both club and country.

Gittens joined the Blues from Borussia Dortmund for £48.5m this summer, and has since played seven times for the club in all competitions.

The two combined for the winning goal in England U21’s 1-0 victory over Andorra on Monday night, with Gittens setting up George.

And the latter says he has been impressed by the Blues’ summer signing.

“He’s really sharp,” George said. “He’s really good, electric, smart player as well. So, yeah, he’s a really good player.

“We’re really, really close. We’re really close friends. I feel like you always need competition in a top club and you’re always going to get that. So, I feel like he’s pushed me, I push him.

“So, that’s the main agenda. So, it’s good.”

George had been linked with a move to west London rivals Fulham in the summer but stayed at Chelsea, and has played five times in all competitions this season.

The Cobham academy graduate says his experience with England’s Under-21 side can also help him to become a better player.

“It’s been decent, to be fair,” George said, reflecting on his start to the campaign.

“I feel like I’ve just taken it day by day, really. I’m not really too focused on the future or anything, but I’m just taking it day by day. So, I think it’s been decent.”
