In a recent report, Sky Germany revealed that Chelsea are among the clubs hoping to land Werder Bremen defender Karim Coulibaly. It has been mentioned that the Blues would have to rival Real Madrid, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli in the race to land the German centre-back this summer.

Coulibaly’s Impressive Rise In German Football

Coulibaly is having a decent run of form at the German club as he has put in a run of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 18-year-old has scored one goal in 22 appearances for Werder Bremen this season across multiple competitions.

The German defender is currently one of the most gifted centre-backs in the Bundesliga. Hence, it is no surprise that the Blues are in the running to land Coulibaly this summer.

His current contract at the London club will run out in the summer of 2029. Thus, the Blues would be wise to move in for him this off-season.

Chelsea Are Among The Clubs Hoping To Land Coulibaly: Is He A Prospect For The Future?

Coulibaly is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is a tidy passer as well.

The German prospect is primarily a centre-back but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so by his manager. However, it remains to be seen whether Coulibaly can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if the Blues manage to get a deal over the line for him later this year.

We can expect Coulibaly to enhance the quality of Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior’s defence in the long run. He is already good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge next season.

At 18, Coulibaly has got the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. He is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future, so Chelsea would be wise to step up their efforts to move in for him at the end of this campaign.
