In a recent post on X, journalist Ben Jacobs mentioned that Chelsea are leading the race for Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons this summer. It has been stated that the Blues could face competition in the form of Arsenal and Bayern Munich in pursuit of the Dutch talent this off-season.

Simons’ Impressive Form In German Football

Simons enjoyed a decent run of form at the German club as he put in a string of impressive performances for them in the final third. The Dutch attacker featured in 33 matches for RB Leipzig last season, scoring 11 times and picking up eight assists in all competitions.

The 22-year-old performed well to average 2.09 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He kept 46% of his shots on target. Simons was also careful when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing 78.6% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com).

Simons is under contract at the Red Bull Arena until the summer of 2027. Thus, Chelsea have got no choice but to meet the German club’s demands if they want to bring him to Stamford Bridge in this transfer window.

What Will Simons Add To Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca’s Team?

Simons can make a few excellent runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the offensive end of the field and can shoot the ball with power from long range.

The German talent can contribute by scoring his fair share of goals up top but there are some concerns over whether he would be able to maintain his good form in the Premier League if Chelsea manage to bring him on board this off-season. Simons mainly functions in the number ten position but can also play as a wide player on either flank if told to do so by his manager.

We can expect Simons to add more quality and depth to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s frontline. He is more than capable of competing for a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge next season.

At 22, Simons has his best years ahead of him which makes him a great signing for the Blues to pull off in this summer transfer window.
