Guro Reiten scored late penalty to give the Blues victory after Lauren James was brought down in the box by Arsenal captain Kim Little.

After the penalty was awarded, Arsenal defender Katie MCabe was shown two yellow cards and sent off for dissent by referee Emily Heaslip.

Reiten then sent Arsenal goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar the wrong way from the spot.

Sonia Bompastor’s side have now won 11 of their 12 WSL matches this season.

Defeat leaves Arsenal 10 points behind the leaders in third place and it looks unlikely either the Gunners or Manchester City will be able to stop Chelsea marching towards a sixth straight title.

After the game, Chelsea defender Lucy Bronze said the Blues want to go the whole season unbeaten.

“We wanted to get a good stretch of points so that when we're trying to compete in all cups we're in a good place,” she said. “We want to go the season unbeaten.

“There's records out there to break. We’ve never clinched the Champions League. Unbeaten is unbelievable and we are on a good road to doing that.”
