Chelsea are not planning to make any knee-jerk decisions regarding the future of Enzo Maresca.

The Blues have no intention of sacking the Italian despite the team’s shaky form over the past couple of weeks, according to football.london.

Back-to-back Premier League defeats against Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion have sparked rumours about Maresca’s future.

It is the first time Chelsea have lost back-to-back games since February – a spell that also included a 3-0 defeat against Brighton.

After starting the season unbeaten in four Premier League games (W2, D2), Chelsea have now won just one of their last five games across all competitions (D1, L3).

That includes a 3-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in their Champions League curtain raiser at the Allianz Arena. But that hasn’t changed Chelsea’s stance on Maresca.

Chelsea host Benfica at Stamford Bridge before the international, with an emotional return for legendary manager Jose Mourinho on the cards.

After that, they return to Premier League duties with another home clash against reigning champions Liverpool.

Even if they lose both games, Maresca will still have the full backing of the board.

The defeat against Brighton was only Chelsea’s fifth in their last 24 games in all competitions.

Maresca’s side were reduced to ten men in four of those five defeats, so the problem is more about discipline than his tactics.

The only time the Blues lost without being at a numerical disadvantage was against Bayern. Maresca has admitted that his players need to learn from their costly mistakes.

Maresca won two trophies in his debut season as Chelsea manager, so the board are willing to give him enough time to sort out his squad and get back to winning ways.
