Chelsea appear ready to continue their squad rebuild under Enzo Maresca, with reports suggesting the club have sent scouts to watch Strasbourg right-back Guela Doué. The 23-year-old has caught attention across Europe for his consistency and maturity in Ligue 1, and CaughtOffside report that Chelsea are currently leading the race for his signature.

Doué has impressed with both his defensive composure and attacking drive this season. Having scored once and assisted twice in five games, his balance of discipline and flair has marked him out as one of Ligue 1’s standout full-backs. Scouts from Chelsea attended Strasbourg’s recent fixture against Paris Saint-Germain, where Doué delivered “a commanding defensive performance while also showing his ability to contribute going forward.”
That performance has only heightened interest from Premier League clubs. Aston Villa, Brighton, and Brentford have all tracked his progress, but it is Chelsea who are said to have made the most decisive move.
Doué remains under contract with Strasbourg until 2029, giving the French club full control over his future. CaughtOffside note that “Strasbourg are in no rush to sell and can demand a significant transfer fee, which is expected to be north of €30 million.” For a player still developing but already showing high-level potential, that valuation may soon look modest. However it’s important to note the obvious ties between Chelsea and Strasbourg making this transfer relatively straight forward for the Blues.
Beyond the Premier League, interest is growing across the continent. AC Milan are understood to see Doué as an ideal fit for their system, while RB Leipzig are considering him as a long-term project. Real Betis have also been linked, reportedly viewing him as the solution to their defensive issues in La Liga.
Despite the growing list of admirers, Chelsea’s financial muscle and the project under Maresca could make Stamford Bridge an appealing destination. Doué fits the modern full-back profile that the Italian manager favours, one capable of overlapping and inverting as required.
From a Chelsea fan’s perspective, Guela Doué represents the type of signing that aligns perfectly with the club’s current strategy. Young, athletic, and technically capable, he would compete immediately for a starting spot while offering long-term value. Many supporters have grown frustrated by inconsistent performances in defence, and the right-back position has lacked stability since Reece James’ recurring injuries.
A move for Doué could be seen as future-proofing the squad. His ability to balance defensive responsibility with attacking ambition suits Maresca’s evolving system, where full-backs often play dual roles. Fans might view this as a positive step toward building a side capable of matching the intensity and structure of teams like Arsenal and Manchester City.
