Blues trail 5-2 after conceding three late goals in nightmare first-leg

Liam Rosenior has called on his players to accept their share of the blame after Chelsea’s Champions League battering at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

The Blues are all but out of the Champions League before a ball has even been kicked in their round-of-16 second leg following Wednesday night’s painful 5-2 defeat to the reigning European champions at the Parc des Princes.

Chelsea were level at 2-2 after 74 minutes but collapsed in the final 16 minutes, shipping three goals. Two of those included errors by goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, whose selection over previous first-choice shot-stopper Robert Sanchez was criticised at the time and has been maligned since.

The second leg takes place at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

After previous defeats during his two-month tenure, Rosenior has often come out in the media and said “that is on me”, shouldering the blame himself.

But he has also spoken at length about wanting to instil a “culture of accountability” in his squad.

Clarifying his position, Rosenior said: “It’s collective. It’s collective. I make mistakes; everybody makes mistakes. That’s my point.

“It’s not all on me. It’s not all on the players. We’re a collective, a group. It’s all good when we win 4-1 at Aston Villa and everyone is happy and takes accountability then.

“You have to take accountability when things don’t go your way [as well]. For me, that’s part of the culture that I want at this club: for everybody to be part of the same thing, whether it’s a success or a defeat.”

Chelsea host Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday as they bid to bounce back from the PSG defeat and improve their push for finishing in a Champions League berth by the end of this campaign.
