The Telegraph reports Chelsea are viewed as favourites to strike a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for Bosnia and Herzegovina teenager Kerim Alajbegovic, a winger previously linked with Sunderland. It adds that Xabi Alonso is targeting an agreement with his former club.
Sunderland have made only one signing ahead of their maiden Europa League campaign, with Belgium international Thomas Meunier joining on a two-year deal after leaving Lille earlier this summer.
Alajbegovic featured in all four of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s World Cup matches in North America and scored in a 3-1 win over Qatar.
Meanwhile, Bild claims Leverkusen are open to talks over Ernest Poku, who has also been linked with Sunderland and Nottingham Forest, during the final six weeks of the window.
The 22-year-old produced six goals and 10 assists in 49 appearances last season and had been expected to contribute across competitions in the new campaign.
Leverkusen are said to be willing to sell the Netherlands Under-21 winger, capped 21 times, for around £22m, and the report says he is set for a move to England before early September.
