Chelsea will be delighted by the fact that Omari Kellyman is in great form while on loan with Cardiff City.

Cardiff City have continued to strengthen their grip on the League One title, and Chelsea will be pleased by one aspect of the Welsh capital outfit's promotion push.

The Bluebirds thrashed AFC Wimbledon 4-1 on Tuesday evening in yet another rout on home soil, ensuring that they remain four points clear of second-place Lincoln City, even though the Imps beat Northampton Town 4-0.

Brian Barry-Murphy's men can add another three points to their increasingly impressive tally by beating Plymouth Argyle at Home Park this Saturday as they edge closer to promotion back to the Championship at the very first time of asking.

Cardiff have not suffered a defeat in League One since their 2-1 loss to Lincoln back in December, and will be determined to beat the Imps to the League One title.

Bary-Murphy has got the best out of young talent in the Welsh capital this season, while Joel Colwill, Ollie Tanner, and Omari Kellyman all scored in the heavy win over Wimbledon on Tuesday.

The strength of Cardiff's youngsters has been heavily endorsed by the high-profile transfer interest in Ronan Kpakio from AC Milan and Manchester United.

Barry-Murphy's men kept activity to a minimum in the summer transfer window, electing to promote academy prospects into the first-team squad while shifting high-earners out of the squad.

For instance, Cardiff signed Kellyman on loan from Premier League giants Chelsea last summer as one of just three signings.

The forward was initially slow to make a big impact for the Bluebirds, and did not score his first goal for the League One outfit until their 2-1 win over Reading in October.

However, the 20-year-old has shown his class in recent weeks, scoring in victories over Wimbledon, Rotherham United and Barnsley.

Kellyman also notched an assist in the 4-0 triumph over Barnsley on 27 January, while Cardiff showed plenty of character to beat Rotherham 3-0 earlier this month, as Ryan Wintle was sent off when the scoreline was still level at 0-0.

Chelsea will be delighted by the former Aston Villa man's recent performances, as his strong form bodes well for the future.

The Stamford Bridge club have previously reaped the benefits of sending their young players on loan to EFL clubs, as Mason Mount and Reece James shone at Derby County and Wigan Athletic, respectively, before proving their worth in West London.

Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior might hope that Kellyman can challenge for a place in his side's first-team squad next season, but another loan move, perhaps to a Championship side, may also be on the cards.

Cardiff City should push for further Omari Kellyman agreement if they clinch promotion to the Championship

There is no doubt that former Hull City boss Rosenior should have high hopes for the career that Kellyman may go on to enjoy at Stamford Bridge, as he has shown plenty of promise in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Cardiff will be tasked with bridging the gap between League One and the Championship if they complete their automatic promotion challenge come the end of the season.

Therefore, if the Bluebirds either win the title or finish second this term, they should push to extend Kellyman's loan spell in South Wales by a further year.

Rosenior may want the 20-year-old to try and challenge for first-team minutes at Chelsea, but a season in the Championship would arguably be better for his development, as the West London club have plenty of attacking talent among their ranks.
