Kicker reports that, with bonuses, Chelsea’s offer for Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kerim Alajbegovic totals €40m once bonuses are factored in. Chelsea remain favorites to sign Bayer Leverkusen prospect Kerim Alajbegovic, though the 18-year-old has not yet entered into contractual negotiations with the Premier League club.
Kicker further claims that former Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso has personally spoken with Alajbegovic and outlined how he plans to develop the Bosnia and Herzegovina international at Chelsea. The proposed pathway could include an initial loan to another club in one of Europe’s leading leagues.
Alajbegovic’s representatives have nevertheless not discussed the length or financial terms of a potential Chelsea contract. Those negotiations are only expected to begin once the clubs reach an agreement.
Alonso’s plan remains attractive to the youngster, though Chelsea’s recent €138m acquisition of Morgan Rogers means that the 23-times-capped B & H international will likely be loaned out initially.
The winger will report for pre-season training on Monday following his World Cup break. He is unlikely to work with the squad, however, as Leverkusen wish to avoid an injury jeopardising the anticipated transfer.
Leverkusen originally sold Alajbegovic to Salzburg for approximately €2m before exercising an €8m buyback option. A €40m sale would complete the lucrative flip outlined in previous GGFN coverage without the teenager ever making a senior competitive appearance for die Werkself.
