Following last week’s title-winning weekend, Arne Slot used some solid rotation to reward those who deserved a start and acted as backups more than guaranteed assets.

The lineup and subsequent ratings are listed below.

OneFootball Videos

Alisson Becker – 6.0

The giant Brazilian stopper was left exposed for the Chelsea goal and lucky not to be sent off for an outrageous tackle in the first half.

The second half was again a case of being let down as the own goal doubled Chelsea’s advantage. They could do nothing for the penalty.

Trent Alexander Arnold – 4.0

The England international was lethargic and too laid back in a first half of lacklustre.

After the intermission, the former academy graduate was anonymous before departing.

Subbed – 56 mins

Kostas Tsimikas – 5.0

The Greek international was given the run around in the first half by Pedro Neto as the right-hand-side of the hosts sparkled in the first half

After the halftime break, the popular fullback was again unable to contain Cole Palmer. Good crossing later on could not hide a good game.

Subbed – 81 mins

Jarell Quansah – 4.0

The England under-21 international defender was rusty at a time early on, as he struggled at times to contain his adversaries.

In the second half, the academy graduate was unlucky to concede an own goal due to a penalty box scuffle. The penalty kick was due to inexperience.

Virgil van Dijk – 6.0

The captain and leader of this team was not close to his best in a laid-back opening 45 minutes.

After the restart, the former Celtic man was guilty of being too unaware as his clearance struck Quansah to send the scores to 2-0. A powerful header seemed likely as he was a continuing threat from corners.

Wataru Endo – 5.0

The Japan captain was almost uncomfortable on the ball and the Red’s large spells of possession left him largely redundant in the first half.

After the break, the former Bundesliga enforcer was diligent and tried his best.

Subbed – 69 mins

Harvey Elliott – 3.0

The diminutive attacking midfielder was ineffective in the first half as the game wandered past him.

After the intermission, the former Fulham trainee was always willing but unable to make an impression.

Subbed – 69 mins

Curtis Jones – 4.0

The under-21 European Cup winner was the man who lacked precision when he was there to control in the first half.

In the second 45 minutes, the former academy skipper was more committed in the second half as he looked to engage an opponent that was more willing.

Cody Gakpo – 5.0

The Dutch attacker was lively at times and peripheral in others in an average first half.

In the second half the former PSV man was better in his production as he looked to lay on opportunities for his teammates.

Diogo Jota – 3.0

The Portuguese forward started through the middle and was again unable to capitalise on the opportunity gifted to him.

In the second half the former Wolves man was again unable to make an impression before leaving the field.

Subbed – 56 mins

Mohamed Salah – 5.0

The Egyptian King was unlucky early on as he looked to engage and create from wide. Much of the first half was limited as space was lacking.

After the break, the record-breaking scorer was ruffled by the roughhousing as he strived to make something stick. Was unlucky with a back post header which angled just wide.

Substitutions;

Darwin Núñez – 3.0 (on 56)

Came on to miss good opportunities, but showed more physicality.

Conor Bradley – 5.0 (on 56)

Came on to add more purpose.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 5.0 (on 69)

Came on to add power.

Alexis Mac Allister – 5.0 (on 69)

Came on to add control and tenacity.

Federico Chiesa – 4.0 (on 81)

Came on to garner enough appearances to be awarded a Premier League medal.

The Manager;

Arne Slot – 5.0

The Dutch manager picked a team that was heavily rotated and the defeat was almost a point proven, as he justified hit prior selections.

The substitutions offered little chance as Chelsea had control of the game, if not the ball.

Steven Smith’s Pre-match Prediction;

Chelsea 1 – 2 Liverpool
