Chelsea drop more points in race for Champions League qualification as several key players have an off day

Ten-man Chelsea moved up to fourth in the Premier League but conceded a 93rd-minute equaliser to draw 1-1 with Burnley.

Joao Pedro gave Chelsea an early lead but Wesley Fofana was shown a second yellow card and sent off in the second half.

Chelsea looked as though they would hold on for victory until Zian Flemming headed home a stoppage-time corner to deny Chelsea victory.

Dom Smith was at Stamford Bridge to rate the Chelsea players’ performances…

Robert Sanchez 5

Had two very simple saves to make but got nowhere near the header that earned Burnley their point. Booked for persistent time-wasting.

Reece James 6

Did well when collecting loose balls, playing team-mates in and working hard down the right.

Wesley Fofana 3

Shown a yellow card in the first half and then dismissed with a second yellow in the second after a needless foul on James Ward-Prowse. Had done well on the ball other than his ill discipline.

Trevoh Chalobah 7

Chelsea’s best defender on the day, winning plenty of loose balls and ensuring Burnley’s forwards did not outmuscle him on any occasion. Not so good from set-pieces though.

Malo Gusto 5

Didn’t have the best game. Did OK at left-back at moments but made a poor decision to do a no-look cross at one stage which lost Chelsea possession.

Moises Caicedo 7

Chelsea’s best player on the day. Played a crucial long pass in the lead-up to Joao Pedro’s goal and made loads of interceptions.

Andrey Santos 6

Picked out sensible passes for Chelsea but it was usually Caicedo at the very base of midfield rather than the Brazilian on this occasion.

Cole Palmer 5

Had one shot blocked and he squandered a one-on-one where he really ought to have doubled Chelsea’s lead. Left the piece on 74 minutes as a change of formation was required after Fofana’s dismissal, and so a frustrating afternoon for the Englishman.

Enzo Fernandez 4

One of Chelsea’s most important players this season but one of his worst performances of the season here. Gave the ball away a lot.

Pedro Neto 6

Beat his man on a couple of occasions but was otherwise thwarted out wide on a far more difficult outing than when he netted his hat-trick against Hull last time out.

Joao Pedro 7

Scored his seventh goal in his last nine games to win Chelsea another three important points. Did well with headed flick-ons.

Subs:

Tosin Adarabioyo (Palmer, 74’) 5

Could have been flagged for a last-man foul but got away with it. Brought on following Fofana’s red card.

Jorrel Hato (Gusto, 80’) N/A

Liam Delap (Joao Pedro, 80’) N/A

Mamadou Sarr (Neto, 88’) N/A

Josh Acheampong (James, 89’) N/A
