Chelsea have reportedly recalled one of their strikers from a season long loan move as they hunt for a new centre forward this month.
The transfer window closes on Monday, and we have heard Chelsea linked with new striker names such as Liam Delap from Ipswich Town this month, as well as Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich as well, who they appear to still be chasing.
But maybe they have realised that they cannot land a new striker, and maybe they are going to use a player they already own?
This is pure speculation by the way, I have no idea if they are even thinking about using David Datro Fofana as their ‘new’ striker going into the rest of the transfer window, but he HAS just been recalled from his loan move that was supposed to run until the end of this season.
David Datro Fofana playing in the FA Cup for Chelsea.
After having a decent loan move at Burnley in the Premier League, Fofana made a really odd next loan move this season, heading to a mid-table Turkish side in Göztepe.
But he has been injured recently and had some surgery, and now he is back at Chelsea.
Simon Johnson from The Athletic had the latest on this situation last night, and he claims it was a Chelsea recall.
He says:
‘Chelsea are determining how long David Datro Fofana will be out for and what the plan is for him next. But by recalling him now, an international loan spot is freed up.
‘He has not played since being taken off injured just eight minutes against Adana Demirspor last month. He has since had an operation to cure a thigh and knee problem.’
