While Chelsea still have 3 games left this season with it all to play for, other teams are pretty much on the beach, or at least spending as much time thinking about this summer and beyond as they are thinking about their final matches of the season.
Aston Villa are very much in our situation, given they’re one of the teams in the race for the top 5 with us, but that hasn’t stopped them also lining things up for the moment the window opens.
As we’ve seen in the last couple of years, there could be significant trade between us and Villa, and one piece of business has bubbled to the surface already.

Axel Disasi is on loan at Villa Park from us, and has been since January. He’s featured pretty regularly for them, and after a few weeks of this move it looked very much like one they would be willing to make permanent in the summer.
That would suit us down to the ground. We desperately want to move him on given the number of defenders we already have, and the desire to add another quality central defender this summer.
But as time as gone by, the chances of him staying seem to have dwindled. Manager Unai Emery has used him at right back a couple of times, where we’ve seen him get completely roasted, notably in the Champions League by PSG’s dangerous wingers.
That seems to have led Villa to the same conclusions we’ve had about him – the Athletic report that they’re now not interested in a permanent deal.
That means he’ll be coming back to Chelsea, and we expect we will push hard to sell him in the summer, with a loan only coming around if we can’t secure a permanent deal. Given we paid around €45m for him, this looks like it’s going to end up being another losing operation from the boys upstairs.
