Marco Palestra appears to be heading to Chelsea in a €60m agreement from Atalanta, after an initial focus on Roma’s Wesley.

According to Fabrizio Romano, new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has been scanning Serie A for wide options and initially asked for Wesley.

Earlier this evening Inter were understood to be close to an agreement for Palestra, with Atalanta ready to accept €45m plus five million euros, and personal terms worth two and a half million euros a season.

Chelsea then stepped in with €55m plus five million euros in add-ons, and offered the player between five and six million euros a year on a five-year contract.

Wesley withdrew from Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad after he was injured in a friendly match.

Roma signed him from Flamengo last year for €25m plus five million euros in bonuses, and were not minded to sell so soon, particularly after qualifying for the Champions League.
