Real Madrid have set their sights on signing Enzo Fernandez this summer, as Jose Mourinho aims to strengthen his midfield options ahead of his first season back at the Bernabeu. Personal terms are already in place with the Chelsea and Argentina star, who is likely to be sought once the 2026 World Cup comes to an end.
However, the arrival of Fernandez would likely mean that one of Real Madrid’s current midfielders leaves, given the abundance of options that Mourinho would have at his disposal. Of them, Federico Valverde and Jude Bellingham are non-transferable, which has left Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni as leading candidates to depart.
And as it turns out, the latter could end up moving in the opposite direction to Fernandez, with Miguel Serrano (via Defensa Central) reporting that Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is keen to be reunited with Tchouameni, whom he worked with during his short tenure as Real Madrid head coach.
It could be a big summer for Tchouameni. He’s currently away with France at the World Cup, but once he returns to the Spanish capital, there is a chance that he doesn’t stay long. Real Madrid are willing to let him leave in order to recoup some of the funds that would be spent on Fernandez, and as far as a likely destination goes, Chelsea would be right up there – especially because Alonso, whom he got on well with at Los Blancos, is there.
It will be very interesting to see how Tchouameni’s situation plays out as the summer progresses. Right now, it does appear increasingly likely that a Real Madrid exit is on the cards, which would be something of a shock given that he was one of the club’s better performers during the disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
