Cole Palmer among the Blues stars set to return after Conference League win over Gent
The Blues head coach swapped all 11 starters for Thursday night’s 4-2 home Conference League win over Gent and is expected to revert back to his preferred top-flight lineup at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
Chelsea are the most in-form team in the league at present, with four wins and a draw from their last five matches, but lost 1-0 at home to Forest last season.
Maresca revealed that youngster Carney Chukwuemeka would have been in the squad to face Gent if he had not fallen ill on Wednesday night, but he is expected to have recovered in time to be in contention for a squad place against Forest.
“Carney was [going to be] in the squad, but he didn’t feel well in the night”, Maresca said. “This is the reason why he was not in the squad. The others, there isn’t any update. The only one [out] is Reece James. The rest are all available [against Forest].”
Chelsea captain James remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, as does youngster Omari Kellyman.
Predicted Chelsea XI (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; Gusto, Fofana, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Madueke, Palmer, Sanchez; Jackson
Injured: James, Kellyman
Doubts: None
Time and date: 2pm BST on Sunday October 6, 2024
Venue: Stamford Bridge
