Chelsea’s win over Benfica last night in the Club World Cup saw the Blues lined up nicely for a trip to the quarter finals, where they will play Palmeiras.
It was a very solid all around performance, especially in the first half where the Blues controlled the game well. They did struggle a little to create clear cut chances throughout however, and had to rely on a Reece James set piece to win the game.
That’s not to say there weren’t good performances out there. James was the highest rated player by WhoScored, racking up an impressive 7.91.
He had a pass accuracy above 95%, he made a team high 3 interceptions, blocked a shot, made a tackle and generally looked the star player we know he is. The excellent free kick he whipped in from a wide area to catch the keeper out was just the icing on the cake.
He continues to perform for us whenever his body allows him to. It’s just a shame that’s not more often.

Pedro Neto has been one of the big winners in this tournament for Chelsea, picking up a couple of goals and looking really impressive at times.
He got another good rating last night, despite not making it onto the scoresheet this time. As well as hitting a shot on target and completing an impressive 94% of passes, he made 3 key passes, more than anyone else on the pitch.
While plenty of players have had good moments, few have done their long term impression much more good than Neto, who has pushed himself head and shoulders above Noni Madueke on Enzo Maresca’s favourite winger list and should already be secure on the teamsheet for next season.
