Federico Chiesa scored for Liverpool, but Sandro Tonali’s Newcastle won the EFL Cup at Wembley Stadium, securing a 2-1 win over the Reds.

Italy international Tonali has won his first trophy in England. His Newcastle side beat Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday in the EFL Cup Final, their first piece of silverware in 56 years.

Tonali started the game for the Magpies and played the whole 90 minutes, receiving a yellow card in the dying minutes.

Dan Burn gave the Magpies the lead seconds before the half-time break, while Alexander Isak doubled the lead at minute 53.

Liverpool winger Chiesa was introduced at minute 74 and found the net in the stoppages, but it was not enough to help the Reds bounce back.

Chiesa had already scored two goals at Wembley with Italy’s national team in the 2020 Euros.

Chiesa has now scored two goals in 11 appearances with Liverpool, while Tonali has had a much better time in Newcastle, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
