Inter Milan coach Cristian Chivu revealed that Marcus Thuram could make a speedy recovery and start in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final against Lazio.

Inter Milan Sweating Over Latest Marcus Thuram Knock

On Monday, the Frenchman sustained a knock at Appiano Gentile, which brought a premature end to his training session. Several sources in the Italian media claimed that the 28-year-old is unlikely to be fit in time for the grand finale.

But as reported on Tuesday morning by FCInterNews, Thuram made a surprise appearance on the training ground, joining his teammates as usual. The striker’s return dispelled all concerns regarding a muscle injury.

Cristian Chivu Provides Updates on Thuram

In his pre-match press conference on Tuesday (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Chivu touched on the subject, confirming that Thuram has indeed trained with his teammates, but must overcome a late athletic test to prove his fitness.

Thuram is doing well. He trained with us today and we’ll evaluate him again tomorrow.

Chivu Expects a Different Lazio in Coppa Italia Final

Chivu also insisted that Saturday’s 3-0 win over Lazio in the league doesn’t have major implications for Wednesday’s game, which will be played in different circumstances and with different motives.

They’ll be two different matches. There are always pitfalls when facing the same team within a few days. Since it’s a final, they’ll have extra motivation. We have to stay humble, aware that we earned the right to be here.

What the Coppa Italia Means for Inter & Chivu

The Romanian manager has the opportunity to guide Inter towards their first domestic double since Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning campaign in 2009/10. Nevertheless, he insists that the Coppa Italia’s outcome won’t define his work.

It wouldn’t change a damn thing. I’m happy because I found a squad that matches my ambitions. I’ve got players who want to stay competitive. We mustn’t become obsessed. We’ve earned everything this year, and we need to keep the same clarity and the same attitude that has defined us.
