Inter coach Cristian Chivu confirms Alessandro Bastoni will miss tomorrow’s Serie A match against Fiorentina, but the defender ‘will be assessed’ by Italy doctors ahead of next week’s World Cup play-off semi-final.
Inter star Bastoni won’t be available for Sunday’s Serie A match against Fiorentina at the Stadio Franchi.
Bastoni already missed last week’s home game against Atalanta, due to a fibula injury he had sustained two weeks ago against Milan.
Chivu confirmed Bastoni’s omission during a pre-match press conference on Saturday, but said the Italian star would still join the Italy national team.
“The boys now represent Inter, and I hope they’ll have two important matches for Italy. Right now, our players are focused on Inter and on contributing to the journey in the league,” Chivu said via FcInter1908.
“Those who go to the national team will have the chance to prepare for the match in the best way, aware that Italy is a strong team that can and must win the first game. Bastoni is not called up for tomorrow; he will be assessed in the national team because he will report there and they’ll make a decision depending on how he feels on those days.”

Inter stars Nicolò Barella, Federico Dimarco, Davide Frattesi, and Francesco Pio Esposito have also been included in the Azzurri squad.
Italy will start preparations for the World Cup play-off in Coverciano on Monday.

The semi-final against Northern Ireland will be played in Bergamo on March 26 and if the Azzurri progress to the final, they’ll visit Wales or Bosnia and Herzegovina.
