Nottingham Forest will be without defender Jair Cunha for Sunday’s crunch trip to Tottenham Hotspur, while Chris Wood continues his recovery for the run-in.

According to Nottingham Post, Vitor Pereira’s side are outside the relegation zone on goal difference, level with West Ham United and one point behind Spurs, and they head to the capital for a 2.15pm kick-off.

Jair sustained a foot injury against FC Midtjylland last week. He missed the draw with Fulham and the last-16 second leg victory over the Danish club. On Thursday Forest reached the Europa League quarter-finals, winning 2-1 on the night and 3-0 on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate.

With Jair sidelined, Forest are likely to persist with a back four rather than the back three used when he was available. Pereira said the centre-back is recovering and undergoing treatment. He did not give a timeframe and underlined the defender’s importance.

Forest hope to be boosted soon by Wood after a knee issue that has kept him out since October. Asked about a possible comeback against Aston Villa after the international break, Pereira said he did not know and had no further information, while praising the striker’s leadership and character.

The head coach selected his midweek XI with Sunday in mind. He stressed the need to collect points everywhere over the final eight games and said this fixture, while important, will not alone decide their survival.

Reflecting on Thursday, he felt Forest could have scored three or four, with tight offsides denying them. He added that such margins will not always go against them and that one day a single chance might be enough.
