Khel Now reports that City Football Group is on the verge of pulling out of Mumbai City FC, and linked the move to the federation’s finances, citing debt of 231 million rupees, more than two million euros.
City Football Group has held a 65% stake in Mumbai City since 2019. The group also holds a majority stake in ESTAC Troyes.
The move comes amid a broader malaise in Indian football. The 2025-2026 season has not started and no launch date has been announced.
Delays have been caused by governance disputes between the federation and clubs, who want more control over the direction of the Indian Super League.
City Football Group’s investment coincided with success at Mumbai City, with three domestic trophies since 2019. In 2022 the club became the first Indian side to win a match in the Asian Champions League.
