CL record broken! Musiala sets new record in the premier class

Jamal Musiala wrote another chapter in his young career in FC Bayern’s spectacular 4-3 win over Real Madrid. The attacking star made his 50th Champions League appearance when he came on as a substitute in the quarter-final second leg – setting a historic record in the process

The 23-year-old is now the youngest German player of all time to reach this mark. At 23 years and 48 days, Musiala is well ahead of Thomas Müller’s previous record, who took around a year longer to reach 50 appearances. Another milestone for the exceptional player, who has long since established himself as a permanent fixture at the German record champions

From debutant to key player

Musiala played his first match in the top flight on 3 November 2020 in the 6-2 win over Salzburg – at the time as a substitute for one minute. Just a few weeks later, he made his first appearance in the starting eleven against Atlético Madrid. Since then, the Stuttgart-born player has developed steadily and is now one of the most important attacking players in Vincent Kompany’s team

The fact that he has already reached the 50-game mark in his sixth Champions League season underlines his extraordinary development. Musiala not only arrived at the highest level early on, but has also established himself there permanently

Müller remains unrivaled for the time being

Despite the new record, Thomas Müller remains the benchmark in German soccer. With 163 appearances, the Bayern legend leads the rankings by a wide margin. In terms of goals, Müller is also well ahead of Musiala with 57, who currently has nine

However, the comparison shows one thing above all: Musiala still has plenty of time left. While Müller played at the highest level in the Champions League for 16 years, Musiala is only at the beginning of his international career

There are already many signs that the attacking player could be a formative figure in Europe in the coming years. His technique, creativity and ability to single-handedly decide games make him one of the most exciting players of his generation

The new record is therefore more than just a snapshot – it is a further indication that Jamal Musiala is well on the way to a great career in the Champions League.
