Claudio Úbeda has opted to leave Edinson Cavani and Carlos Palacios out of Boca Juniors’ squad to face Cruzeiro at La Bombonera on Tuesday, despite both returning to group training.
The squad trained on Sunday ahead of the fifth round of the Libertadores. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, after that session he ruled both out, with the list due on Monday midday after a final workout in Ezeiza.
Úbeda believes they are not yet ready for minutes against Cruzeiro and could be closer for Universidad Católica.
Lucas Janson fills Adam Bareiro’s place. The Paraguayan is sidelined by a muscular injury to the adductor complex and left rectus anterior. Milton Giménez stays in despite a recent ankle issue.
Two changes are enforced, one suspension and one injury. With Santiago Ascacibar sent off against Barcelona de Ecuador, Tomás Belmonte is the likely deputy. Up front, selection could hinge on Giménez’s fitness or Ángel Romero.
At right-back, Malcom Braida is set to replace Marcelo Weigandt after impressing in the second half against Huracán.
The XI trialled in training featured Leandro Brey, Malcom Braida, Lautaro Di Lollo, Ayrton Costa, Lautaro Blanco, Tomás Belmonte, Leandro Paredes, Milton Delgado, Tomás Aranda, Miguel Merentiel and Ángel Romero.
