Clement dumps the stats as he admits Rangers aren’t good enough

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has at least learned one thing from the horrific loss to Celtic at Parkhead – to never again use stats as a justification for anything.

The manager, yet again under pressure after another bad result at home to Lyon, was directly asked about the stats, which on paper did make Rangers look a lot better than the scoreline, and his answer demonstrated one thing he’s finally picked up:

“No, I cannot (be happy with those stats). I don’t accept losing games and I don’t accept the level we are at.”

This is a much, MUCH more Rangers thing to say, as opposed to the nonsense pre-kick off where he claimed he’d be very happy with a draw.

Unfortunately he slightly undermined it afterwards by praising the side for indeed achieving such progressive play:

“I’m always ambitious to raise the level. I think the very positive thing is that you create that amount of chances against a really good team with good football and good combination play.”

He’s not completely wrong this time – Rangers did have chances, but it’s not chances which win games, it’s goals.

And he does admit that:

“But we need to make the next step to finish off those chances and then you can go to another level.”

What he really means is go back to the level we were at before he broke us?

Rangers are a lot worse now than we were before, and Clement is a lot to do with that.
