Boca have secured CNRT approval to build four access towers at La Bombonera, a step needed to raise capacity to 80,000. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, it is a fundamental milestone.
Since December 2023, the board have worked with 20 architects and engineers on expansion within the footprint. The plan avoids buying neighbouring blocks and sticks to the urban code to avoid exceptions.
The railway zone was the key hurdle. After initial authorisation from concessionaire Ferrosur, CNRT signed off. The club must now await other approvals to start phase one, building the towers over the tracks and adding a new tier.
Capacity would rise from 57,000 to 80,000 through four structural interventions within the existing site.
First, a fourth metal tier will add 6,500 seats, sitting on the third tier, with off site fabrication to limit disruption.
Second, the Iberlucea sector brings a net 6,500. The pitch will move four metres towards the tracks and the current boxes will become a structure over the pavement. That sector will have 9,500 places, including VIPs, 216 boxes and 36 press cabins.
Third, the present third tier will become a popular stand, raising capacity from 5,000 to 12,000. Fourth, regraded slopes will remove flat sections in members stands, adding 1,500 per end. A roof will cover all spectators and enhance acoustics.
Stage one, the towers and fourth tier, will be club funded and targeted for late 2026, with Boca staying at home. A temporary move would follow for Iberlucea, likely to Vélez or La Plata.
