Como have agreed a deal worth more than £30 million to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, according to BBC Sport.

The Serie A club have reached an agreement with Chelsea after lengthy negotiations, with the Blues set to receive an initial £25.7 million and a further £5.1m in performance-related add-ons.

The overall package is close to Chelsea’s reported asking price of £30m plus £5m in bonuses. Chalobah is expected to sign a long-term contract with Como, where head coach Cesc Fabregas has identified the 27-year-old as a key addition to his squad.

The former Chelsea midfielder has reportedly been pursuing the England international for more than six months, while Inter Milan had also shown interest in the defender.

The move will bring an end to Chalobah’s near two-decade association with Chelsea, having joined the club’s academy as a youngster before progressing into the first team.

His departure also forms part of Chelsea’s efforts to streamline Xabi Alonso’s squad ahead of the new season. The Blues recently strengthened their defence with the signing of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace and are continuing to reshape their options at centre-back.

Chelsea are also understood to be open to offers for Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile, while younger defenders Mamadou Sarr and Josh Acheampong could leave on loan in search of regular first-team football.

Although the agreement between the clubs is in place, Chalobah’s transfer is expected to be completed once the remaining formalities are finalised.

This would become one of Como’s most significant signings under Fabregas as the Italian side continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
