Como and AC Milan will go head-to-head at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Thursday evening in a Serie A fixture.
Como sit in sixth place on 34 points, just five points behind fourth-placed Roma in the Champions League race, while Milan occupy second place on 40 points, six points behind league leaders Inter Milan.
This rescheduled fixture represents an important opportunity for both teams to strengthen their positions in Serie A’s upper echelons.
Cesc Fabregas faces some key absences. Álvaro Morata remains sidelined with a left thigh injury sustained against Inter Milan earlier this month. The 33-year-old is not expected to return until late January or early March, according to an official Como statement.
Additionally, Jayden Addai and Assane Diao are expected to miss the next few games with muscle injuries, while defender Edoardo Goldaniga is day-to-day. The good news for Como is the return of Spanish defender Jacobo Ramón, who has completed his one-match suspension following the Bologna fixture.
Massimiliano Allegri’s Rossoneri have managed to maintain an impressive unbeaten streak of 18 matches, though recent performances have raised concerns. Like Como, Milan have relied heavily on late equalisers, with Christopher Nkunku and Rafael Leao scoring crucial 90th-minute goals in each of their last two matches against Genoa and Fiorentina. The French forward is set to start against Como, preferred to Christian Pulisic according to Sky Sport Italia journalist Peppe Di Stefano.
Milan’s main injury concern centres on Rafael Leão, who continues to struggle with a right adductor inflammation. While the Portuguese winger trained with the group and has passed medical tests, he is not in full physical condition.
Despite this, Leão is keen to start and help the team navigate this delicate period. The club is proceeding with caution, mindful that the adductor is a sensitive area that could develop into more serious issues like pubalgia if pushed too hard.
German striker Niclas Füllkrug has suffered a minor fracture to his toe phalanx but returned to training and could be available for the matchday squad. However, Milan will be without Santiago Gimenez through injury, while Strahinja Pavlovic suffered nine stitches after an aerial collision against Fiorentina and also has a fever, which might keep him out of Thursday’s fixture. The positive news is the return of Fikayo Tomori from suspension.
Fàbregas’ side have won three of their last four matches, scoring eight goals and conceding just one in that exceptional run. They are one of only three teams still undefeated at home this season, alongside Juventus and Napoli, with an impressive record of five wins and four draws at the Sinigaglia.
This home strength is built on their possession dominance and structured defensive organisation, with Como boasting the best possession statistics in Serie A under Fàbregas. They come to this match after a draw against Bologna (1-1).
Milan’s recent form has been frustratingly inconsistent. Despite remaining unbeaten, they have drawn three of their last six league matches, with two of those draws against teams battling relegation at the time: Genoa (17th) and Fiorentina (18th).
This pattern reflects a broader concern about Milan’s ability to break down lower-ranked opponents, with analysis showing that 13 of their 15 goals conceded this season have come against teams in the bottom 10. That said, Milan’s away record remains exceptional—they are unbeaten in nine consecutive Serie A away games
