The Marcus Rashford transfer saga looks like a complete mess for Manchester United at the moment, according to journalist David Ornstein.

The Red Devils have so far struggled to offload Rashford this January, despite the England international very clearly no longer being part of the club’s plans under new manager Ruben Amorim.

Amorim has made the big call to leave Rashford out of his matchday squad on more than one occasion now, and the Portuguese tactician has spoken publicly about his perception that the player isn’t working hard enough in training.

See below as Ornstein speaks on The Overlap about the Rashford situation, describing it as a complete mess due to so many different factors being at play that have prevented the saga coming to a conclusion…

Ornstein provided some insight into the interest Rashford has had this winter, including from Serie A giants Juventus and AC Milan.

However, the Athletic reporter has also stated that the 27-year-old’s preference has been Barcelona, only for the issue there to be the Catalan giants’ finances.

Meanwhile, it looks unlikely that Rashford would accept a pay cut on the huge contract he’s currently on at Old Trafford.

Could Marcus Rashford end up staying at Manchester United?

Due to how complicated this saga is, it seems Ornstein also wouldn’t rule out Rashford ending up staying at United this January.

Still, he also implies that Rashford staying might influence other deals, such as Alejandro Garnacho, as MUFC also have an eye on Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku.

It would be a pretty bad look for United if they ended up having to stick with Rashford for a bit longer after how Amorim has handled the player since his appointment as manager.

All in all, this comes across as yet another poorly-planned window by United.
