Manchester City take on Liverpool in a tasty clash of titans in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening.

City enter the game off the back of a convincing 4-1 beating of Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League in midweek as goals from Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki and a brace from Phil Foden took the Blues to fourth place in the group-phase rankings.

Pep Guardiola has admitted that Ballon d’Or winner Rodri is unlikely to be risked against Liverpool on Sunday after missing the win at home over Dortmund despite coming off the bench late on in City’s recent Premier League win over Bournemouth.

The Blues have won 10 of their last 13 games in all competitions and can reduce Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to four points by beating Liverpool after the Gunners were held to a late 2-2 draw by Sunderland on Saturday.

Liverpool did the double over Manchester City en route to the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s debut campaign at Anfield last term but City have made a better start to the season after both clubs underwent massive upheaval in the summer transfer window.

Much has been made of Liverpool’s uncharacteristic remake of their title-winning squad, with Manchester City also in a period of transition after adding seven new players in the summer and offloading several senior stars deemed past their prime.

Guardiola knows full well the worth of beating direct title rivals as Manchester City vie for a fifth Premier League crown in six seasons – in the backdrop of a sobering, trophyless 2024-25 season that saw the Blues finish third in the Premier League, exit the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage and lose the 2025 FA Cup final to Crystal Palace.

City can keep the pressure on Arsenal with victory over Liverpool but Guardiola and co will be wary of the reigning champions, who will be desperate to make a statement at the Etihad Stadium ahead of the international break.

Here are the confirmed lineups from both camps ahead of Sunday’s 16:30 UK kick-off at the Etihad Stadium!
