Manchester City are vying for their first Premier League win of 2026 when they take on bitter rivals Manchester United in a Saturday lunch-time kick-off at Old Trafford.
The Blues followed three consecutive league draws to begin the calendar year with back-to-back cup triumphs in the last week, putting Exeter to the sword in a 10-1 rout in the FA Cup before seeing off Newcastle in a 0-2 win in the opening leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie.
Pep Guardiola is still missing a series of key players due to a lack of fitness and injury problems, with all of Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, John Stones, Oscar Bobb and Mateo Kovacic all set to miss the derby this weekend.
Elsewhere, Omar Marmoush will soon return from the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco following the conclusion of a third-place play-off tie on Saturday, with Nico Gonzalez also expected to return to action sooner rather than later.
Antoine Semenyo has made a blistering start to life at the Etihad Stadium since completing an initial £62.5 million transfer from Bournemouth, scoring and assisting on his City debut against Exeter before breaking the deadlock at St. James’ Park in midweek.
Manchester City have also reached an agreement to sign Crystal Palace and England centre-half Marc Guehi for around £20 million, with the Eagles captain set to undergo a medical on Sunday before he puts pen to paper on a five-and-a-half year deal at the Etihad Stadium.
In the wake of injuries to Dias and Gvardiol in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea earlier this month, City recalled academy star Max Alleyne from loan at Watford and the 20-year-old has gone to start thrice in succession against Brighton, Exeter and Newcastle.
The Blues are currently six points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal and after dropping six points in their last three league outings, there is no margin for Pep Guardiola and co to lose further ground in the title race as they vie for a fifth triumph in six seasons.
