Atlético Madrid star Conor Gallagher has secured for himself a place in something of a special La Liga club.
This comes owing to the midfielder’s exploits in Atlético’s latest outing.
Diego Simeone’s troops marked their return to action on Sunday, welcoming Valencia to the Spanish capital for a league clash.
When all was said and done, the Rojiblancos emerged dominant dominant victors, by three goals to nil.
And the aforementioned Gallagher was amongst the goals on the evening, opening the scoring after getting on the end of a fine pass from Rodrigo De Paul.
His contribution to Atlético’s triumph aside, the former Chelsea man’s goal, as alluded to above, also proved a significant one from a historic standpoint.
As revealed by statisticians Opta, Gallagher is now the 3rd-youngest English player to score in La Liga in the 21st century.
The only two Englishmen to have managed as much at a younger age were Mason Greenwood (Getafe) and Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid).
