Mestalla has turned on Carlos Corberán, with resignation chants surfacing whenever Valencia wobble. According to AS, he has eight matches to steady belief while Kiat Lim and Ron Gourlay continue to back him.

The cry returned after Celta Vigo’s second goal in Sunday’s 3-2 win, as it had against Real Madrid and Alavés. Valencia’s home record is six wins, five draws and four defeats. They have 35 points from 90, the fifth-worst 30-game haul this century.

Corberán is judged for results and, in many eyes, for ties to Peter Lim after a May photo in Singapore with Kiat Lim, Javier Solís and Gourlay. Since then he has been credited with major say on renewals, signings, sales and structure, which he downplays.

The hierarchy still see him as central medium and long term, even after a flirtation with the drop. Four arrivals since January, Sadiq, Unai, Guido and Renzo, take the tally to 12 since last summer, with the Gourlay-Corberán tandem helping to secure Lim’s approval.

Lim has already allowed two summer deals, De Haas and Dieng, and talks to renew Guido. Gourlay joined last May partly for Corberán and is reshaping operations around his needs. At the shareholders’ meeting he spoke of improving results and, at 62, of working two or three more years before handing over.

With Kiat Lim’s approval, Gourlay plans to extend Corberán by one year beyond 2027, a strategic move before another window and ahead of the Nou Mestalla move. With eight rounds left and the rift with the stands, the timing is uncertain.

In early February, with Valencia in the relegation places, Gourlay stressed patience tied to stability, said Corberán was under contract and that pressure would not derail the project. The team are six points off seventh and six from the drop. Next are Elche and Mallorca away, then Girona and Atlético at home, Athletic, Rayo at home, Real Sociedad and Barcelona at home, the farewell to Mestalla until next season.
